In April 1836, Texas President Sam Houston led the Texan Army to victory against Mexico during the Battle of San Jacinto. San Jacinto has been viewed by some as revenge for the previous Texan losses at Goliad and the Alamo. The victory helped to earn Texas the status of an independent nation for a brief period of time.
