In September of 1929, Jimmy Doolittle arrived at his conclusions about instrument flying having made advancements through theory and experimentation. Although he would go on to make significant contributions to US aviation via combat during World War 2, his focus on the use of instrument flying, the pilot’s field of vision, and changes in pilot sensation have commonly been cited as Doolittle’s legacy.
