Although the Wall Street Journal was originally founded in July 1899 by the publishers of “flimsies” or short publications intent on providing information to stock traders, the modern-day notion of the Wall Street Journal can be traced back to the 1940s. During this time, the US continued to experience industrialization and the peace following World War 2 led to heightened urbanization and demand for news.
