On October 14, 1884, New Yorker George Eastman received a patent from the US Government for his new photographic paper. Eastman would also receive a patent for a camera designed to use rolls of photographic paper and founded the Eastman Kodak company, which specialized in cameras and film. Eastman also gained notoriety for his financial assistance to organizations founded for community improvement.
