During November of the Great Sioux War of 1876, the United States Army laid siege to a village of the Northern Cheyenne resulting in death and destruction. The conflict has been called “Dull Knife Fight” in recognition of the leader of the Northern Cheyenne whose name was Morning Star to the Cheyenne and Dull Knife to the Lakota Sioux. Some historians consider Morning Star to be one of the last significant leaders of the American Indian Wars.
