Aaliyah Dana Haughton died in a tragic plane crash off the coast of the Bahamas in August of 2001. Simply referred to as Aaliyah, she was a singer, dancer, actress, and model. Nicknames like “Princess of R&B” and “Queen of Urban Pop” strongly imply the type of music she was known to produce. In her short life, Billboard Magazine recognized her as being in the top 50 most successful R&B artists in history.
