The Declaration of Independence, officially referred to as “The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,” announced reasons the American colonists were urgently fighting to separate from the British Empire. Fifty-six of America’s Founding Fathers signed the document, including representatives from all 13 states. The Committee of Five that drafted the Declaration of Independence included John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Robert Livingstone, and Roger Sherman. Some people argue that the Declaration of Independence was a near-perfect example of arguments in favor and against a particular claim.
