Francis Marion was a Brigadier General in the Colonial Army. He spent most of his life in South Carolina, where he was born. Because of his lifelong knowledge of South Carolina, he was called on to lead the South Carolina Militia during the American Revolution. Marion earned the nickname “The Swamp Fox” due to the way he waged guerilla war. He was noted to have engaged with the British on twelve different occasions and has been regarded by some as one of the fathers of guerilla warfare and maneuver warfare.
