On May 16, 1771, near Great Alamance Creek, North Carolina, the final battle between the Regulator Movement and the militia of colonial North Carolina faced off in a conflict that many say foreshadowed the American Revolution. The Regulator Movement was an uprising of citizens against the colonial administration of North Carolina, which had the support of the British Parliament. Although the North Carolina militia won the battle, the battle showed the rising anger and frustration of “Americans” towards the British Parliament in the British colonies in North America.
