Due to the untimely death of President John F. Kennedy, Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn into the executive office quickly after JFK’s passing. In 1963, Johnson won the ballot for US President and served one term. On the domestic front, Johnson dealt with civil rights issues, public broadcasting concerns, and social service demands such as public health, education, and the arts. Johnson has been remembered on the foreign front for escalating the Vietnam War to combat communism in Southeast Asia.
