The French and Indian War (also called the Seven Years War) lasted from 1756 to 1763. During this conflict, Great Britain, American colonies, and their Native American allies fought against the Kingdom of France, soldiers from New France, and their Native American allies. Specifically, the Iroquois Confederacy, the Cherokee nation, and less numerous Indian forces fought on the side of Great Britain. In contrast, the Algonquin, Abenaki, and Wabanaki Confederacy fought on the side of the French. Although the battles were primarily fought in North America, the nations of Europe, their colonies in North America, and Native American tribes experienced significant consequences due to the war.
