On November 20, 1962, the 35-day conflict known as the Cuban Missile Crisis came to an end (the height of the event was October 16 to October 29, 1962). After the Soviet Union had agreed to remove its missiles from Cuba, US President John F. Kennedy issued orders that ended the naval quarantine of the island of Cuba.
