Henry Clay was an American attorney and politician from Kentucky. He served as a US Representative and Speaker of the House. He also served as a US Senator. Although he was viewed mostly favorably for his term as Secretary of State from 1825 to 1829, he unsuccessfully ran for president in 1824, 1832, and 1844.
