The Battle of Bunker Hill occurred during the Siege of Boston, which lasted from April 19, 1775, to March 17, 1776. The actual battle between the American Continental Army and the British Army occurred on June 17, 1775, near Charlestown, Massachusetts. Although the British won the battle, they achieved victory at a very high price suffering 1054 casualties to the Continental Army’s 450 casualties. The Battle of Bunker Hill proved that a volunteer militia could withstand a battle with the British Army.
