In May of 1963, American astronaut Gordon Cooper spent an entire day in space aboard “Faith 7” the spacecraft he commanded during the Mercury-Atlas 9. Although some doubted the need for this flight due to the success of Mercury-Atlas 8, Cooper was able to successfully complete several experiments while orbiting the Earth.
