Washington Allston was born in 1779. Although he was born in South Carolina and lived in Massachusetts for most of his life, he also lived in London (England) and Paris (France). In 1826, he was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 1827, his first exhibition of twelve paintings was held.
