In June 1781, Kentucky farmer and politician Jack Jouett rode 40-miles in Virginia to warn undefended representatives of the Virginia government that the British cavalry would be approaching soon. Jouett has been called the “Paul Revere of the South” and his ride was kindly remembered by Thomas Jefferson and others.
