The Battle of Long Island is also called the Battle of Brooklyn and the Battle of Brooklyn Heights and it began on August 26, 1776, during the American Revolutionary War. Although the battle lasted for a few days and the British eventually achieved victory, the American retreat proved that war in the British Colonies in what would become the United States would be long, bloody, difficult, and unique.
