The Battle of Yorktown was the final Battle of the Yorktown Campaign, fought between the British and the American forces. Before the Battle of Yorktown, the Colonial Army and the British Army had engaged in several skirmishes that added importance to Yorktown. Eventually, the Colonial Army bested the British Army, and the Battle of Yorktown proved to be the final decisive land battle of the American Revolution. Peace talks between the British and the United States began shortly after the event.
