In June 2004, SpaceShipOne completed several goals as a private company trying to accomplish spaceflight. The vehicle was designed to contain a pressurized cabin, to reach and sustain conditions that allowed for space travel, safely re-enter the earth’s atmosphere, and land horizontally on an aviation landing strip. Having completed those goals, SpaceShipOne was retired, and the development of SpaceShip Two began.
