David Crockett was nicknamed the “King of the Wild Frontier” for his willingness to venture beyond comfortable boundaries. He served in the Tennessee Militia during the War of 1812 and the following skirmishes with the Spanish in Florida. He also took an antagonistic stance toward Andrew Jackson and was against the Indian Removal Act. After a political dispute, he ventured to Texas. He later participated in the Texas Revolution and died during the Battle of the Alamo.
