The first patent awarded for an ice cream cone-making machine was awarded to a joint venture between Antonio Valvona (an Italian immigrant living in England) and Frank Marchiony (an Italian immigrant living in New York) in December 1903. Despite the noted history of the Valvona-Marchiony Company, some controversy does exist about who actually “invented” the ice cream cone.
