During the Age of Exploration, Conquest, and Colonization (1400 to 1900), the British founded colonies along the Atlantic Coast in North America. Although several of the colonization attempts failed, 13 stable colonies ultimately emerged. These 13 colonies would eventually become the founding members of the United States. Ultimately, the American Revolution was fought between the American colonial army against the British Royal Army. The Americans represented several cultures from many different nations and civilizations. The original patterns of immigration to the United States and the determination to pursue success by following American traditions have provided both inspiration and controversy.
