Abolition was the belief that slavery should be abolished or made illegal in the United States. William Lloyd Garrison was one of the most well-known abolitionists during the 1800s. Garrison was also a journalist and a social reformer. He often used the newspaper he owned, “The Liberator,” to support abolitionist causes.
